These organisations provide specialist advice, guidance, networks and professional development in literature, writing and poetry.
The English Association aims to further knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the English language and its literatures and to foster good practice in its teaching and learning at all levels. It does this by working towards a fuller recognition of English as an essential element in education and in the community at large, by encouraging the study of English language and literature and by means of conferences, lectures and publications.
The English and Media Centre is a not-for-profit trust that provides publications and professional development on all aspects of English teaching for teachers and students of literature, language and media in the UK and abroad.
The National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE) promotes standards of excellence in the teaching of English from early years to University; promotes innovative and original ideas that have practical classroom outcomes; supports teachers' own professional development; provides an informed national voice on matters concerning the teaching of English and its related subjects; and encourages sharing and collaboration between teachers and learners of English and its related subjects.
The National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE) supports the development of creative writing of all genres and in all educational and community settings throughout the UK. NAWE incorporates literature training – providing information and advice on professional development for writers and other literature professionals.
The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education is an educational centre for schools and teachers, parents, teaching assistants and other educators. CLPE has a national and international reputation for its work in the fields of language, literacy and assessment.
