Webinar: Launch of Researching the Arts in Primary Schools – The RAPS Report

Tuesday, February 25 2025 · 7 – 8:15pm GMT. Online.

The RAPS research is a study of primary schools where the arts and/or creative approaches are flourishing. Its aim is to develop an understanding of the conditions and factors that enable an arts-rich environment in primary schools and to identify the benefits for children of being in arts-rich schools.

CLA is delighted to be launching this report given the lack of data available on the teaching of Expressive Arts subjects in primary schools – as highlighted in our 2024 Report Card.

Speakers: RAPS report co-authors, Professor Pat Thomson (CLA Senior Evidence Associate) & Professor Christine Hall

Chair: Jacqui O’Hanlon MBE, Deputy Executive Director & Director of Creative Learning & Engagement, Royal Shakespeare Company (CLA Evidence Associate)

Panel members: Kerri Sellens, Assistant Headteacher (Curriculum), Art & Design specialist, Lansbury Lawrence Primary School, Poplar & Johanne Clifton, Head of Curriculum and Virtual Learning, The Elliot Foundation Academies Trust.

The RAPS report is published by the University of Nottingham School of Education and is funded by the Freelands Foundation.

This is the first in a CLA series of webinars focusing on the Expressive Arts in schools.
